Burlcore Mining elevates on-site safety with first aid training for security teams.

Burlcore Mining Company Limited has officially rolled out a comprehensive first aid and emergency response training programme for its on-site security personnel, part of a broader effort to formalise mining operations, raise occupational health and safety standards, and invest in the professional development of its local workforce.

Security teams are often the first to arrive at the scene of an incident, whether it involves a minor workplace injury, sudden illness, or an operational emergency. By equipping these frontline workers with life-saving skills, Burlcore Mining is closing the gap between an incident occurring and professional medical help arriving.

This proactive approach ensures that every shift is supported by personnel who are not only trained to protect the site, but also to protect the health and well-being of the people working within it.

The rigorous training programme was designed to address the specific environmental and operational realities of a medium-scale mining concession in East Africa. The curriculum covers several critical areas.

Basic Life Support (BLS) provides instruction in CPR and the use of automated external defibrillators, giving security personnel the confidence to respond to cardiac emergencies before an ambulance arrives. Trauma and wound management covers techniques for controlling severe bleeding, stabilising fractures, and managing minor abrasions before professional medical handover.

Environmental emergency response addresses the regional climate directly, with rapid identification and treatment protocols for heat exhaustion and dehydration. Incident triage teaches personnel to assess emergency situations quickly, prioritise care, and coordinate smoothly with local medical facilities in Busia District.

"Our security teams are the first eyes on the ground. When they are trained to respond medically, every worker on site becomes safer, and every community link becomes stronger."

This security-focused medical training is a natural extension of Burlcore Mining's ongoing investments in community and worker welfare. Acting on behalf of the Burlcore Foundation, the company has already established a strong track record of ESG infrastructure in Busia, ranging from the installation of community boreholes and school water points to the launch of a weekly worker nutrition programme.

By upskilling local security hires with transferable, internationally recognised first aid qualifications, Burlcore continues to build a resilient, empowered workforce. It reinforces a simple but powerful company philosophy: responsible mining is measured not just by the resources extracted, but by the safety, skills, and infrastructure that stay behind.

Burlcore Mining Company Limited is a fully licensed Ugandan gold mining operator working the Lake Victoria Green Belt under the oversight of the Directorate of Geological Survey and Mines (DGSM). The company is dedicated to formalising operations, creating local jobs, and funding vital community infrastructure across Busia District.

"A trained security team is not a cost, it is a safeguard. We are building a workplace where competence and care are part of every shift."
