Burlcore aids in solving the water crisis for the Mawero community, Uganda.
Burlcore Mining Company Limited has successfully assisted in resolving a long-standing water crisis affecting the Mawero community, delivering a comprehensive water and infrastructure project that provides sustainable drinking water, supports daily household needs such as washing and cleaning, and protects the area from seasonal flood damage.
For years, residents of Mawero faced unreliable access to clean water, a challenge that affected health, daily routines, and the wider wellbeing of the community surrounding Burlcore's Busia gold mining operations. Recognising the scale of the problem, Burlcore committed to a project that would not only secure a dependable water supply but also strengthen the area's resilience against the heavy seasonal rains that have historically caused flooding and disruption.
The completed works deliver clean, sustainable drinking water to the community, alongside a reliable supply for everyday domestic use including washing and laundry. Mirroring the water infrastructure, Burlcore carried out civil engineering works specifically designed to manage excess rainfall and reduce the risk of flooding.
The response from the community has been immediate and heartfelt. In a message sent to Burlcore's management team, a community spokesperson wrote on behalf of Mawero residents:
