Burlcore Mining delivers critical clean water access to Mawero.

Burlcore Mining Company Limited has completed the installation of new clean-water infrastructure serving the Mawero community in Busia District, replacing an unsafe seasonal supply that had long threatened household health and school attendance.

The project - built and funded by Burlcore Mining as part of its Busia community programme - consists of a protected borehole, storage tank, and distribution points sited to serve households, the local school, and a nearby clinic.

For years, Mawero residents relied on distant surface sources during the dry season. The new system removes that daily burden, particularly for the women and children who traditionally carried water over long distances.

The infrastructure was scoped in coordination with district authorities and traditional leadership. Burlcore's ground team remained on site through commissioning to ensure the system met community-agreed handover standards.

"We forward our great vote of thanks to Burlcore Mining for solving our water crisis in Mawero."

Burlcore's ground management team has committed to a multi-year maintenance and support arrangement so the system remains operational well beyond initial commissioning.

The Mawero installation is part of a wider clean-water programme Burlcore is rolling out across host villages within the Lake Victoria Green Belt. Further sites are already being scoped in coordination with district health authorities.

"We are here for the long term. Water is the most fundamental piece of infrastructure a community can have, and it is exactly where a responsible operator should start."
